Get Calcium From Eggshell Powder

The first step is to eat eggs like you normally would, but leave the shells in the carton. Once all of the eggs have been consumed, take the shells and thoroughly rinse them with water to remove any excess whites or other material. It’s okay to keep the membrane that is attached to the shells intact as they provide additional nutrients.

Place the shells in a large pot and fill with water. Bring to a boil and cook for about 10 minutes in order to kill off any bacteria or other impurities that may have grown on their surface. Remove from heat and drain the water. Place the shells on a baking sheet and allow them to dry at room temperature overnight. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees and bake the shells for about 10-20 minutes to ensure that they are completely dry.

The next step is to grind the shells into a fine powder. You can either use a blender, food processor or coffee grinder, but the coffee grinder seems to produce the best results. The only drawback is that you can’t but all of the shells inside at once, so it does take a little bit of time to grind up an entire batch. However, the grain and consistency of the powder that is created is worth the additional effort.

You can leave the powder out overnight or bake again to remove any remnants of water before storing, but chances are that they will be sufficiently dried from the initial baking. To store the shells, place them into a mason or baby food jar and keep in a cool, dry place. It is essential that they are stored in an airtight container to prevent moisture from entering and causing spoilage from microorganisms or bacterial growth.

To consume, simply take a teaspoon of the powder and add it to a glass of water and stir. You can also sprinkle the powder on cereals or other foods as you eat them. A teaspoon will contain around 750-1000mg of calcium, and one and a half servings will provide most people with their daily dietary requirements. However, older adults as well as individuals in their late teens should be taking about 1300mg per day.

The best part of this trick is that the powder has almost no taste and it dissolves easily in liquid. It also eliminates the need to drink or eat foods that are hard to store and prepare during a survival situation. Make a few batches today to ensure that you have some on hand during periods of duress when other options may not be available.
